who we are

committed is an independent project at trycommitted.com. It is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Queen's University.

Questions, or to have your information deleted: hello@trycommitted.com.

what we collect

If you join the waitlist: your school email address, and your phone number if you choose to give one. Nothing else.

If you get an account when we open: your name, your year and programme, a photo if you add one, a short description if you write one, your answers to the questions we ask, which people you were shown, whether you said yes or pass, and the messages you send through the service.

However you arrive: we count how many people visit, which pages they look at, what they click, and how far down a page they read. This is done with a tool called PostHog, without cookies, and it is not linked to your name or your email. We do not record your screen.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not have advertisers.

why we collect it

Your email proves you are a student and is how we reach you. Your phone number is how we send you a match. Everything else exists to work out who to introduce you to, and to show that person who you are.

what other people can see

Your name, photo, year, programme and description are shown to people you are matched with at your own school. Your phone number and email are never shown to anyone.

Who you passed on is never shared with anyone, including the person you passed on. A person only learns you said yes if you both did.

who else touches it

Three companies hold this data on our behalf and do nothing else with it: Supabase, which stores the database, Vercel, which serves the website, and PostHog, which counts the visits described above. If we text you, your phone number passes through whatever service sends that message.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else.

how long we keep it

Until you ask us to delete it, or until the project shuts down, whichever comes first. If the project shuts down we delete everything.

your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will do it. Email hello@trycommitted.com. Canadian privacy law gives you these rights and we are not going to make you argue for them.

keeping it safe

Everything sits behind rules that check who is asking before anything is returned. Phone numbers are stored apart from profiles so they are not readable by other members. No system is perfect, and we will tell you promptly if something goes wrong.

age

committed is for people 18 and over. Do not use it if you are younger.

changes

If this changes in a way that matters, we will email the address you signed up with rather than quietly editing this page.
